Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 May 2026
By using ShtChat you agree to these terms. The gist: you must be 18+, don't be abusive, and accept that what an anonymous stranger says is on them, not us. Chats are deleted after 24 hours unless you explicitly save them.
1. Acceptance
ShtChat ("the App") is operated by Sleeb Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. By downloading, installing, or using the App you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use ShtChat. We collect a self-declared birth year at onboarding to enforce this. The App is rated 17+ on the App Store and 18+ on Google Play. By creating an account you confirm you meet the age requirement.
3. The service
ShtChat lets you start a five-minute anonymous text chat with another user who is also using the app. After five minutes, or if either of you ends the chat early, the conversation is over. Twenty-four hours later it is permanently deleted from our servers. You may optionally save a summary of a chat (with an AI-generated audio reading) to your own account.
The service is provided "as is" with no guarantees about availability, match quality, response time, or the behaviour of the people you are matched with.
4. Account and sign-in
You create an account by signing in with Apple or Google. The sign-in is required so we have a way to ban abusive users; the chat itself remains anonymous to your match. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. One person, one account; sharing accounts is prohibited.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use ShtChat to:
- Harass, threaten, intimidate, or abuse another user.
- Send, request, or describe sexual content involving minors. We report any such content to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to UK law enforcement.
- Post hate speech, slurs, or content inciting violence against people based on race, religion, sex, gender identity, sexuality, disability or any other protected characteristic.
- Solicit personal information (full name, address, phone, financial details, sexual images) from another user, or share that information about a third party (doxxing).
- Impersonate any person, organisation or public figure.
- Send spam, links to malware, scams, or commercial promotions.
- Use bots, scrapers, automated tools, or modified clients.
- Attempt to identify, track, or locate another user offline.
- Reverse engineer, probe, or interfere with the App's infrastructure.
- Do anything illegal under the laws of the United Kingdom or your jurisdiction.
6. Moderation, suspension and termination
We operate automated and human content moderation. Messages that match our hate-speech filter are removed within seconds and counted against the sender. Repeat offences result in an automatic, permanent account suspension. We also act on user reports.
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to remove content, suspend or terminate any account, with or without notice, for any breach of these terms. We may also report suspected illegal content to the relevant authorities.
If you believe your account has been suspended in error, email appeals@shtchat.com. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
7. Reporting harmful content
Every chat has a report button. Reports are reviewed on a best-efforts basis, normally within 24 hours. We will act on illegal content immediately. For urgent safety issues, contact your local emergency services first; we are not equipped for crisis response.
8. Your content
You retain ownership of the messages you send. By sending a message, you grant ShtChat a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, transmit and (where you opt to save a chat) process that content for the sole purpose of providing the service. This licence ends when the message is deleted.
9. AI-generated audio
If you tap "Save", we send the text of your chat to ElevenLabs to generate an audio version using two synthetic voices. The audio is stored privately under your account; only you can request a playback link. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share any audio you generate.
10. Anonymity — and its limits
Your match cannot see your name, email, photo or any identifying information. We can. We use your sign-in identity only for moderation, ban enforcement and account deletion — never to reveal you to other users. You are still responsible for what you choose to disclose about yourself in the chat.
11. Intellectual property
The ShtChat name, logo, app design, marketing copy and source code are our intellectual property or that of our licensors. You may not copy, modify, redistribute or create derivative works without our written permission.
12. Account deletion
You may delete your account at any time from inside the App: Profile → Delete my account. Deletion removes your profile, saved chats, audio, block list and authentication record within 30 days. Some moderation logs may be retained for the period set out in the Privacy Policy.
13. No warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available". We disclaim all warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShtChat shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the App, including but not limited to damages caused by other users' content or conduct. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (for example, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms shall not exceed £50.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ShtChat and its operators from any third-party claim, loss or expense arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the App, or your violation of any third-party right.
16. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that consumers resident in another EU/EEA country may bring proceedings in their country of residence under that country's laws if mandatory consumer-protection rules apply.
17. Changes
We may revise these terms. Changes take effect when posted. If a change is material we will notify you in-app on next launch. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
